Juicyfy Juice Bar & Cafe Lafayette @ Damansara Uptown

(Damansara) Uptown funk gives us a couple of new cafes on the same street to check out; let's start with Juicyfy, which serves cold-pressed juices (the Klang Valley's current 'it' drink), smoothies, bread, waffles & gelato.

Juicyfy has nailed what's certain to be a crowd-pleasing look, cheerfully colourful - expect to see the inspirational sayings on the walls here pop up a lot on your social media feeds in the months to come.

The highlight here are the cold-pressed juices, with 12 current variants with self-explanatory nicknames like Immunify, Beautify, Digestify, Heartify, Slimify, Youngify, Energify, Hidratify & Detoxify. Here's our Vitalify, which features an interesting mix of lotus root & apple (RM10.50).

Beetify (RM11.90), comprising beetroot, Japanese cucumber & orange, alongside a Good Gut smoothie (RM9.90) with papaya, apple, ginger & yoghurt. The beverages taste wholesome, with discernibly low sugar. Other ingredients offered in the other juices here include everything from star fruit & dragon fruit to purple cabbage & broccoli.

Food-wise, Juicyfy's most popular combo might prove to be buttermilk waffles topped with the cafe's own 'Happyfy' gelato.

Enjoyable enough, though the waffle could be crispier on the outside; it might be meant to be airy within, but it feels a bit soft (but mercifully, not soggy, spongy or stodgy). The gelato comes in choices like pistachio, macadamia & dark chocolate, all of which could be smoother. The gelato is reputedly made with natural ingredients - no artificial flavouring, colouring or gelatin - but its flavours could be fine-tuned for a more satisfying fullness.

The preparation for this platter could be tweaked too - the egg in Juicyfy's own-baked bread might fare better with a runny yolk. The potatoes on the side taste like a cross between a potato salad & mashed potatoes, which may not work for some patrons. Still, it's clear that a lot of thought & work went into conceiving this menu, which showcases promise & potential.

Also new at Damansara Uptown: Cafe Lafayette, a comfy hangout run by a friendly team, perched on the first floor.

Of course we had the Bailey's Guinness cake; still not quite a liquor lover's dream cake, but moist & well-balanced in flavours.

Come for coffee - Lafayette offers the required Sumatran-Ethiopian-Columbian range of single-origins, alongside all the piccolo lattes & green tea lattes you'll need. We only sipped a bit, but we liked what we tried; well-prepared enough to please.

Lafayette also dabbles a little in juices (orange, pineapple, celery-cucumber), though a bottle of apple cider always wins out.
