Marini's On 57 Restaurant @ Petronas Tower 3

The pieces of the puzzle are coming together: the restaurant at Marini's On 57 is now open, beside the constantly bustling bar and close to the soon-to-launch lounge.
Entries on Marini's bar: June 26 and July 2.

The setting is stunning, instantly one of KL's most impressive-looking dining destinations, thanks to the can't-be-bettered 57th-floor view of the nearby towers.

Sit back and take a long breath before plunging into the menu; prices here are nearly as steep as the restaurant is high. A three-course meal will easily exceed RM120 after taxes.

Marini's soft-launch menu comprises several creatively composed concoctions like this creamy timbale of prawn, mushed up with avocado and mixed with champagne dressing.

Familiar classics include 'vitello tonnato,' chilled veal slices poached with tuna sauce and capers.

Cheerful chef Claudio, who hails from Rome, believes in the kind of honest, prepared-with-passion pastas that are the pride of his homeland, like spaghettini with mullet roe (botargo) and almonds. Terrific textures for this one.

Manfredine pasta with squid ink, calamari, tomatoes and basil leaves.

Tuna fillet, roasted precisely medium-rare for a buttery bite, with balsamic glaze.

Wrapping up this seafood-dominated dinner: pan-fried sea bass with a twist, stuffed with shrimp for a surplus of succulence and served with rucola in lemon dressing for extra zing.

Marini's on 57 opens only in the evening _ the bar begins business earlier, followed by the restaurant at 7pm. Last orders for the restaurant are at 10:45pm.

  1. Normally I dun like fish as an entree...but the pan-fried sea bass stuffed with shrimp sounds highly intriguing...summmore with a lemon dressing =)

  2. Looks like an awesome place to bring a date. RM120 for 3-courses sounds a bit steep, though, that's edging into Sage and Cilantro territory ...

    1. Timing: oh yeah, i'm envisioning lots of people having dates and marriage proposals, etc here :D but ya, RM120 is probably the minimum for three courses here. safer to budget at least RM150 per person for three courses, without drinks =)

  4. Oooooooooo I love the final sunset shot. We almost ended up at Marini's for pre-dinner drinks tonight but we ended up shopping too much and leaving too little time to do anything else ;P

  5. Lovely shots Sean! Another Italian chef huh? Places like this - paying half for ambiance and another half for the food :P

    1. TNG: thanks! yeah, it looks like we're getting more italian and spanish chefs in KL now, yay =) and ya, you're right, we gotta factor in their rental rates for a location like this :D

    1. AugustDiners: ya, the food here is good, but it still falls a little bit short of greatness (so far). the recipes are safe, the flavors are safe, and there aren't really any dishes here that are a total knockout. but it feels comforting and authentic, so i guess it depends on what customers are looking for, heh =)

  10. How did you get a day with no haze?! I like the idea of sea bass stuffed with prawns...meaty.

    1. YouHadYourLunch: heh, we were definitely fortunate, this was a haze-free evening a couple of weeks ago :D and ya, sea bass and prawns separately on their own are a little dull, but together: yay! :D

  11. Ehh I didn't know there's a Menara 3 at Petronas? I thought only 2 towers? :P Anyway the view looked gorgeous! And price is definitely not cheap too.. but I guess prices go in line with the altitude of the restaurant somehow :P

    1. Iamthewitch: ya, there's now a tower 3, though it's not as noticeable though, since it's less than 60 stories high, and it's designed differently. It's linked to Suria klcc, nearer to the mandarin oriental entrance =) and yeah, the higher we go, the higher the prices escalate. But still worth paying for at least once to enjoy the sweeping scene outside the windows :D

    1. Cindy: so far on weekdays, it's not too crowded, maybe since it's still the ramadan month and some muslim customers would be busy with attending prayers after breaking fast =)

    1. Missyblurkit: heheh, a full month of bubblies sounds like a very merry month indeed! :D oh ya, i think it'd be cool to head here soon, since it might still be not-too-crowded during the aidilfitri season. or maybe not, heh =)

  18. I think this place is where you splurge on views and food is really not the main attraction. My friend recently went there and the bill nearly gave him a heart attack. hahah

    1. Eiling: that's kinda true, i have to say. i enjoyed the food here, but i enjoyed the ambiance much more. and ya, the high prices mean that i'll probably only return here once every few months, heheh :D
