Little Collins Cakery

Everyone's eyes lit up when we received Little Collins' cakes. The praise was unanimous; these were beautifully crafted cakes, beyond question, well worth admiring for the attention to detail - we couldn't wait to taste them. It reminded us of how cakes made us feel when we were much younger, when the sight of a birthday cake, draped in fluffy, colourful frosting, would make the children squeal & huddle excitedly around the table in anticipation as the adults cut thick, creamy slices to pass around.

Little Collins started out in 2008 as one of Solaris Mont Kiara's earliest cafes, rolled together with a family-owned bakery & florist business. Founder Frances Voon has since revamped the venue to focus on cafe fare & sweet treats, with a new milestone this year - an online store from which customers can purchase party cakes & customised novelty cakes. Specialities include this Caramello, part of a Petite Party range that's meant to feed up to 15 persons, featuring a chocolate mud cake layered with salted caramel buttercream, garnished with pretzels & popcorn, plus a topper made by local creatives akudankraf. It's as unabashedly moist & rich-tasting as it looks - enjoy each mouthful & be liberated from the shackles of calorie-counting.

Littlecollinskl.com aims to be a one-stop source for your dream cakes, which might include interesting creations like this green tea sponge cake with custard cream & Korean red beans - the East Asian components of matcha & adzuki beans provide a wholesome uplift to this light, five-inch cake, for four to six persons. Little Collins' signature cakes seem well-thought-out enough that we'd be happy to leave the entire concept & execution to them, but customers who want more personalisation can walk into their Solaris Mont Kiara retail outpost to sample the cakes first-hand or book a consultation to build the ultimate cake.

The cakery's most popular offering is currently the Rainbow, with seven suitably hued layers of butter cake striped with buttercream & crowned with marshmallows - the fuss-free simplicity of this one's flavours & textures hark back to beloved, time-honoured classic cakes, boasting a fragrant, sumptuous freshness that's best savoured at room temperature.

With Christmas approaching, Little Collins' Nutella-inspired log cake might be the ideal festive dessert - this dense chocolate cake, layered with hazelnut mousse & blanketed in buttercream, Ferrero Rocher, macarons & strawberries, should bring extra merriment to any Yuletide celebration. And speaking of good cheer, Little Collins is offering a 20 percent discount to customers who use this promo code - eatdrinkkl - while shopping on their online store, littlecollinskl.com, in the spirit of giving & receiving.

From hefty cakes to dainty nibbles: Our Little Collins stash also included hand-made tarts with tasty house-made fillings, from banoffee to lemon meringue with luscious curd, chocolate to berry & cheese, each with clean, distinct & potent flavours. Many thanks to Little Collins for this feast of cakes.
