Snapshots of six coffee stops: If you're looking for offbeat coffee, Bangsar's Ojo Coffee has some, featuring flavours like red velvet & pina colada.
We sampled the Pink Bubble Gum Espresso (RM12.50) & Green Tea Horchata Cool Blend (RM13.50); whether you like 'em or not might hinge entirely on your tolerance for quirkiness. For food, smoked salmon sandwiches & plum streusels are available.
2017 Update: Ojo Coffee is now one of 12 restaurants in Bangsar participating in the ‘Dine, Earn & Redeem with your mobile number’ initiative by AirAsia BIG, AirAsia’s loyalty programme. Earn and/or redeem your AirAsia BIG Points here! For more details, see: https://goo.gl/EVsBGH
Ojo Coffee: Joe Of The Town
23 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur.
Sri Petaling's Tinterland is part of the new crop of novelty cafes for 'selfie coffees.'
For the photographic pleasure of patrons, take a selfie of yourself, then pay RM11 to have your facial image imprinted on the foam of coffee in flavours like popcorn, tiramisu or cinnamon. But for relatively shy customers, skip the selfie coffee & eat cake.
Prefer less colourful coffee? We feel you; check out Plaza Mont Kiara's amiably unassuming Black & White Cafe for more traditional lattes & flat whites, well prepared & potentially well partnered with warm chicken pies & chilled carrot cakes.
For folks who are super-serious about coffee, the best bet in this compilation might be the lovably friendly Mad About Coffee.
Prepared with Q Cup Roasters' Black Mamba blend, the coffee at this cafe in Petaling Jaya's 3 Two Square meets the mark.
Staying on in PJ for the remainder of this exploration: A five-minute drive from Mad About Coffee, there's The Delle Coffee & Tea, a stylish spot where office workers at the PJ Centrestage complex congregate for coffee & Smooshie juice to wash down The Delle's plates of lamb pita & spaghetti alla pesto.
Also nearby on the PJ campus of Brickfields Asia College: TWS Cafe. But the coffee here is by far the weakest of the bunch, while the cakes & macarons look dully generic - a sign from the coffee gods that we should stop, go no further & wrap up now.
