Cong Caphe Malaysia, Nu Sentral

Vietnamese coffee chain Cong Caphe has launched its first Malaysian outpost, embodying its romanticised retro manifesto in an unabashedly atmospheric setting that harks back to 1980s socialism, with what looks like well-thumbed Lenin propaganda tomes lining the shelves.

Expect the familiar favourites offered by scores of Cong Caphe locations across its origin of Hanoi as well as Ho Chi Minh City, served by a friendly crew in Viet Cong-inspired outfits. The first order should be the signature coconut milk with coffee, aromatically caffeinated, creamy and frosty (RM14.90 for a short). For the hot latte-like version, the bac xiu is sweet with condensed milk, buoyed by unmistakable coconut nuances (RM12.90 for hot). Warm food, such as chicken ham banh mi and beef rice noodles, should be available soon.
