MyBurgerLab @ Sea Park

Witness the mad science of burger-making engineered into an art form _ the men behind MyBurgerLab opened their long-awaited outlet this week, cracking the code for between-the-buns masterworks.

There's no Nobel Prize for the physics of patties, but we'd back MyBurgerLab for beefy brilliance; this precisely graded "A+ Burger" (RM15) sparks culinary chemistry with sharp cheddar, caramelized onions and shiitake and enoki mushrooms. Safety goggles and gloves not included.

Spontaneous combustion is possible in a burger like the Spicy Hawaiian chicken concoction (RM14), featuring fowl with red sauce, pineapple and mozzarella. Biologists haven't learnt if the chicken or the egg came first, but we hypothesize this chicken would come together nicely with some egg to moisten it further.

It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that a vegetarian component completes MyBurgerLab's patty-rific table of elements. Try the "Bella Luna" (RM14), which boasts an explosively juicy grilled portobella mushroom with cheddar and a secret sauce.

MyBurgerLab experimented for months to nail the formula for which buns go best with what patties, sauces and toppings; even the fries were subjected to strict scrutiny, assuring an alchemy of crisply succulent savoriness in each herb-sprinkled strip of potato.

MyBurgerLab will create more monsters in the months ahead (though we think these are more the Mona Lisas of burgers than Frankensteins), including a possible beef-banana-peanut butter-and-beef-bacon extravaganza to have customers all shook up. If cryogenics had kept Elvis alive, now would be the time to wake up The King.

Guinea pigs galore (we're guilty too!) lined up as soon as MyBurgerLab's doors were flung open (business hours are 5pm-11pm for now, Tuesdays through Sundays). Speaking of pigs, this is a pork-free outlet, but try not to complain; a beef burger done right beats a so-so pork one.

MyBurgerLab sold over 200 burgers in its first six hours of business; survival of the fittest will determine its long-term fate in the cutthroat cafe scene, but the bugger-all burger inventiveness here makes us hope it'll evolve from cult favorite to smashing success.

... Bananas and Peanut Butter? Definitely would be a first for me. And for 99% of us, I'd wager :)

    1. Timing: oh yeah, it'd be cool to try it! fatboy's burger bar in solaris dutamas actually also has an "elvis burger" with bananas and peanut butter, but that one is with a pork patty. i think having beef with peanut butter and bananas could be a more flavorful combo! :D

  5. 200 burgers in 6 hours! If they can keep those numbers up they won't need to extend opening times..lol. But you sure are fast! Wendy was just telling me today that this place is opening...guess it's not in opening stage any longer!

  6. Great! Have been there a couple of times for the tasting sessions before they open for business and they have got such huge potential and I love their passion for the just right burger (even giving some tips for the bread making in the beginning). My favourite is the A+ burger though I missed out on trying the Ooey Gooey burger with that deep fried portobello mushroom.

So happy to see the opening night went well!

    1. Kelly: ooh, the ooey gooey burger seems to have been renamed into the "beautiful mess" on the latest menu: now it comprises the deep-fried mushroom, sunny-side-up and mozzarella! :D
although maybe i'm not a fan of burger buns in general, so i thought the bread here tasted OK but were definitely not the highlight =)
opening day was pretty good! there already were dozens of customers during the first hour :D

  7. a beef burger done right beats a so-so pork one - TRUE INDEED.
Wahh so near my place. No excuse not to go try ASAP, except that it's only open at night (WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!) & I'm having a Ramadhan review every night! :(

    1. Rebecca: ya, it's too bad there are a lot of so-so beef burgers everywhere in KL too, so it's difficult to find a really satisfying beef burger :D oooh, check it out next week after your ramadan reviews maybe. they're still tinkering with the burger menu, i think, and who knows, there might be new-and-improved recipes and newer burgers by next week! =)

  8. hey this place looks like they really have potential. I hope they do stay in the business. The prices aren't too expensive either and that's the selling point.

    1. Eiling: oh yeah, plenty of potential! especially since there are not many good burger options for the sea park/ ss2 area. and yeah, prices here should be OK for burger-lovers to pop by at least once a week to get their burger fix :D

In the meantime, I console myself with their Say Cheese2...hehe =)

    1. Ulric: heheh, maybe lamb will make an appearance someday. i hope they'll also introduce 'burgers of the week' specials to keep the menu continuously interesting :D

    1. Chong: oh yeah, and the prices all seem to be nett too, without hidden service charges, etc. great for the crowds of young adults in their very early 20s who seem to form the bulk of the customers here so far! =)

    1. Choi Yen: heheh, it's very eye-popping! :D i think i'd prefer if they used a chicken thigh though, to make it juicier, but i guess they have a good reason for what they do =)

    1. The Yum List: thank you =) 'where on earth is seapark' was my exact sentiment too! it's not too deep within petaling jaya, maybe a 10-minute drive from taman tun dr ismail, but i needed a GPS to find my way inside, since it's mostly a residential area with confusing streets :D
