Vegan vacation vibes: Billed as a brekkie bar, LaGula is KL’s latest sweet sensation for plant-propelled pleasures, a bakery-cafe built by and for vegans. 

LaGula is a striking two-level space with welcoming service and soothing tones, tucked in Four Points by Sheraton hotel near Chinatown, powered by the people behind The Hungry Tapir cafe. It's the perfect pink-hued place for a whimsical Wes Anderson TikTok montage.

LaGula’s soft-launch menu straddles day and night - croissants baked with an olive oil spread instead of butter, packed with ‘pastrami’ of black bean and soy brisket, scrambled tofu to eliminate eggs, house-strained vegan 'cheez' and rocket, paired with herbaceous cocktails that blend cardamom-infused gin with grapefruit, rosemary syrup and tonic.

Medium, Bangsar

With espressos at RM5 and lattes at RM7, Medium is Bangsar’s cheerful new conduit for coffee and conversation.

Sharing its setting with a co-working space in Gaya Bangsar, open to the public, Medium is a modest caffeine bar that serves massively satisfying brews, meant to be affordable and accessible for all.

Sip on smooth, soulfully balanced coffee, currently relying on a Burundi medium-roast sourced from Soul Sacrifice. 

Medium is founded by Izmir, returning to Malaysia after four years in Hong Kong, honing his craft there at caffeine purveyors like The Porter and Fine Print.

Chawan Tea, Bukit Jalil

Chawan Tea is Bukit Jalil’s new sanctuary of Chinese tea, serving soothing cold-brewed red tea paired with noodles in steaming-hot black tea soup, set in a serene second-floor space with lots of lovely pots and cups to purchase.

The Vocation, Bangsar

The Vocation brings cause for celebration for cafe enthusiasts, now serving up bakes and brews for Bangsar’s working community. Perched in Menara UOA near the LRT exit, it rises bright and early with surprisingly spicy nasi lemak bungkus paired with coffee, plus croissants and cookies, quiches and scones, crafted by the welcoming team in a warm-toned space with tasteful touches.
