Kefi Kohi has a soulful new space, warmly conceived like a cosy home with rug rooms and reading corners, inspired by Chinese family lounges and Japanese tatami ledges.

The shift is seamless: Kefi Kohi still basks in sunlight and leaves, bakes and brews, conveniently beside its former locale in PJ’s Section 19.

Snack on scrumptious shio pan with strawberry jam while sipping coolers like Shoju (genmaicha carbonated with clarified pink guava) and Chamisu (hojicha thickened with milk, cream and ladyfingers).

Coal is Bangsar’s new cavern for caffeine and creative coolers, the dayside doppelgänger of cocktail parlour Coley, mining morning magic instead of midnight mixology.

Coal is no diamond in the rough; it’s a fresh front for flat whites with the proven polish of Coley, which has been working whisky wizardry since 2016.

Serving from 9am, Coal shows how a night owl’s haunt can shine before noon, swapping shakers for steam wands and bar bites for brunch-and-brew beauties.

House bakes span hearty bagels stuffed with chicken, fennel-apple slaw and red pepper with aquafaba emulsion, plus flavourful fried chicken sandwiches with ulam raja slaw and pickled mango butter glaze. Charcoal choux conceals vanilla cremeux for yin-yang contrast.

Mocktails like Seed keep the imagination flowing, pouring coffee with almond milk, infused with jackfruit and chestnuts. Also sip on Coal’s own-fermented soursop kombucha for a bright start.

Nuo Nuo is Taman Desa’s new stop for Kanomsiam-style petite pandan sweetmelts, prepared hot to order on the griddle with a custardy Bangkok-loving coconut milk chew.

For late-night Ramadan cravings, Shah Alam's new Loom Cafe opens 9pm to 2am this month, a family-friendly space in Persiaran Akuatik's Residensi Alami.

For hot meals, the Prawn Aglio Olio is crustacean-punchy pasta, balanced with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. For a sweet treat, Oreo Pancakes are a comforting classic with crushed cookies, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. And for a fizzy after-hours perk-me-up, sip the Strawberry Lemonade Soda and Mango Cloud Soda.
