South Korea's ambassador for Andang's braised chicken speciality of jjimdak has launched its first outpost in Malaysia. Bongchu serves hearty heaps of organically farmed chicken, saturated in a spicy soy sauce with chunks of potatoes, carrots, leek, onions, cucumbers and dried chillies, complete with slick glass noodles (RM58 for half a chicken, RM108 for whole).
Use the accompanying tongs and scissors to cut the noodles, order scorched crispy rice crust (RM9.90) to break into the platter and help soak up the sauce, and you have a winner of a chicken dinner for two to three persons. Kimchi and dongchimi (pickled radish in watery brine) are served on the side. Soju is also available.
Caution: Bongchu's Original jjimdak is stingingly, startlingly fiery; patrons might prefer to start with Less Spicy on their first visit.
