8C's The Central Kitchen, Taman Shanghai
This charmer of a restaurant is new to the neighbourhood, but it offers a step back in time, a short stroll from Taman Desa. If you love eateries that echo with nostalgic blasts from the past, swing on over.
8C's kitchen is run by the folks behind KL's long-running Limapulo Nyonya restaurant, so expect reliable Peranakan staples, from perennials like Nyonya Laksa (RM16; you can have this with a twist of thicker, firmer Japanese-style ramen noodles) and Ayam Pongteh (RM12; served with a full plate of nasi lemak, for a reasonably priced lunch). Also try the nasi lemak with fried chicken in a fluffy-moist, house-made 'Yummy Sauce' that bears more than an aromatic whiff of lemongrass (RM14), washed down with a mulberry-based Pink Lady fizzy-limey quencher (RM10).
