Unstable Concoction is now brewing curious chemistry, Hartamas’ new cafe-lab that splices spice and savoury sensations into caffeinated coolers while spinning Sade and Travis Scott on vinyl.

La Reina is layered with cacao nib tea, strawberry and chilli cheong, slyly slinking from fruity brightness with lingering cili padi heat into creamy, cocoa-toned depth.

TBD is a tropical triumph, weaving the roastiness of espresso with the light uplift of coconut water and house-whisked kaya. Pair with polo buns slathered with butter and the same kaya.

Apple Pie convincingly turns pastry into a pourable pleasure: Apple juice channels orchard freshness with a cinnamon spark, rounded out with the nutty richness of brown butter and tang of cream cheese.

Other concoctions include HOR?, a questionable balancing act of roselle tea and ristretto with lychee, honey, vanilla and milk, and Cepsi Pola, the choice of a new generation, folding the cafe’s own chai mix into cold-brew coffee.

Customers can scrawl suggestions for future formulations on the vision board: Mushroom mixes? Mangosteen mash-ups? Chaos is celebrated here.

Knotted Cafe is Shah Alam's new family-friendly space, helmed by a husband-and-wife team, centred on 'ikatan,' the ties that bind.

Cosy low seats and board games beckon customers for crowd-pleasing fare, some with Southeast Asian inflections: Creamy tom yam prawn pasta with a heat that builds with every bite, cheesecakes by a neighbourhood baker, Knotted's own-made tiramisu, pineapple coolers, plus Indonesian-roasted coffee that reflect Knotted's Balinese inspirations.

Flippies is Bukit Jelutong's new stop for pancakes made with house-whisked batter, fluffy and flavourful, finished with salted maple butter.

Go bananas with Flippies' pancake folded inside and showered on top with bananas,  gorgeously caramelised, glossed with golden maple syrup.

Pao Pao is Kuchai Lama's new pad kra pao stall: Its minced pork stir-fry is slicked and saucy, shot through with basil and chillies, buried beneath crisp-fringed fried eggs, their molten yolks spilling lusciously into every seasoned, savoury spoonful in Guzai Kopitiam.

Nocte Coffee is Taman Desa Jaya’s friendly new caffeine stop, with specialities like the Brazilian single-origin butter dirty latte, buoyed by salted butter emulsified in the beverage for subtly savoury silkiness. Other brews span Spanish shaken lattes to Viennese Einspänner; bagels, banana bread and burnt cheesecake will be served beginning next week.
