This new health cafe & store, hidden on a row of homes in Bangsar, marks a fresh chapter in the personal journey of Malaysian-born, Melbourne-based Shantini Ingkaran, a former practising lawyer who reinvented herself as a wellness trainer.
Organica Lifestyle is meant to be an 'urban sanctuary' that offers not only nourishment but yoga & Pilates classes. Shantini endured a health scare last year, & the experience reinvigorated her focus on promoting a wholesome lifestyle.
It's an oasis of calm, a place for people to stop & really breathe, only a five-minute drive from bustling Telawi. There's no signboard, so look for house No. 15 - limited parking is available within the compound, with the possibility of valet parking eventually if the crowds surge. The two-storey space comprises a yoga studio upstairs & a cosy-looking cafe section below with positive vibes & a private garden view.
Cold-pressed juices are sweeping KL, with new outlets popping up every week. Organica's painstakingly produced variety should meet the mark for aficionados - this one has spinach, watercress, coconut, lemon, pear, peppermint & grape seed oil.
Head here for Proud Mary coffee; Organica Lifestyle is still in a soft-launch stage, but cold brews should be available in a matter of weeks, alongside proper food - expect Paleo-friendly breakfasts, macrobiotic lunch bowls (beetroot hummus?) & gluten-free cakes (Shantini says she herself is gluten-intolerant).
Organica's store is up & running, showcasing a selection of food products by Australian entrepreneurs - organic oat beverages, nut spreads & vegan-suitable tea. Shantini expects to be based mainly in KL over the next year as Organica blossoms, & she may eventually shuttle between Malaysia & her home in Australia once operations stabilise.
