It's probably safe to put this SS2 newbie on a probationary whitelist of eateries to check out for folks in this neighbourhood.
Blacklist deserves some measure of praise for working hard to construct a comparatively creative menu. Puff pastries are refreshed with pretty tasty fillings of sauteed spinach & mushrooms on one side & egg with beef bacon on the other (RM20).
Sliders also prove to be something special here, comprising beef & portobello mushroom mini-patties sandwiched in gruyere cheese-laced potato rosti instead of bread buns (RM20).
Deep-fried chicken wings, stuffed with a minced mix & topped with a tangy kitchen-made sauce, could also be crowd-pleasing.
Still, some of Blacklist's recipes could profit from fine-tuning; the seafood risotto (RM26) lacks the oomph to make it memorable.
Some customers might want to forget this pulled beef sandwich, smothered by an overpoweringly cloying sauce.
Blacklist's grilled duck breast (RM40), marinated in jasmine & rose tea & served with passion-fruit sauce & potato-cheese pie, comes in a heartier-than-expected portion, with a satisfyingly juicy texture. But its balance of flavours is disagreeably skewed.
Give Blacklist's young chef some time to gain more experience & to hone his taste buds; his ambition with experimenting with the menu indicates that he could have a promising future. Blacklist serves no wine for now but charges a nominal corkage fee.
