New Mooncakes, 2019: Ming Palace, Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur

From Crystal to Snowy Musang King mooncakes, the Blue Danube to the Luminare, Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur's Ming Palace is lighting up the 2019 Mid-Autumn Festival with the fresh debut of four new mooncake varieties to bring the excitement back to this sweetest of seasons. If mooncakes are your irresistible indulgence, handcrafted to painstaking perfection, pick up a mooncake or a box of four, any time from now till 13 September 2019.

Durian devotees, meet the dessert of your desire: Corus Hotel's Crystal Mooncake and Snowy Mooncake are two Musang King mooncakes differentiated by the textures of their skin - a lusciously translucent, jelly-like coating and a flaky-soft snow-skin, both of which offer a lovely bite that complements the potent richness of the King of Fruits within. Their distinctive dimensions beautifully evoke the traditional temptations of childhood memories.

These two mooncakes are made in collaboration with durian specialists DurianBB, which sources premium whole fruits from Malaysian orchards. Mooncake orders come in DurianBB's cute packagings, which double as heat shields. These mooncakes clock in at RM35 each.

Also enticing is the Blue Danube, named for the classic waltz, a mooncake that harmoniously blends the fruitiness of blueberry with the earthiness of yam for a soothing dance of flavours on your palate, for patrons who prefer light, reviving mooncakes for teatime treats or post-meal refreshment (RM30).

While we haven't tried the fourth new flavour, the Luminare (white lotus with mashed salted egg yolk), we managed to savour another two bestsellers returning this year: The Low Sugar White Lotus (RM30) and the Tropical Emerald, with a coconut milk and pandan exterior that blankets a coconut-creamy core (RM30), illustrating Corus Hotel's forte of producing smooth, easy-to-enjoy mooncakes. Other mooncakes available include Red Bean, Matcha Tiramisu, and Mixed Nuts.

For the ultimate convenience, delivery services are available at a fee of RM60 within Kuala Lumpur and RM100 within Petaling Jaya. Patrons who purchase 20 or more boxes will receive complimentary delivery to one destination within 20 kilometres of Corus Hotel. Each elegant box contains four whole mooncakes.

Bulk purchase discounts are also available, with a 20% discount for 20 to 99 boxes and 30% discount for 100 or more.

Many thanks to Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur for an afternoon of delightful decadence.
