We had a peek at Unique Seafood's Golden Ox Prosperity Poon Choy, which looks beautifully tempting, suitable for 10 persons (RM698 nett for dine-in; RM498 nett for Early Bird takeaway orders).
The Poon Choy comprises a bounty of all the auspicious essentials, including braised 10-head abalone, Japanese dried scallops, sea cucumber, fish maw, tiger prawns, roasted chicken, smoked duck and other premium ingredients, rounded out with the chef’s special golden superior soup. We loved the prawns, which are transported every morning from a Perak breeding farm, and the scallops, flown in from Scotland. Both need only light cooking to showcase their pure, vibrant flavours - the prawns can be poached, served with dips of chilli sauce and dried shrimp sauce, while the scallops are ideally steamed and laid over minced garlic and glass noodles. The prawns and scallops are plump and succulent, pristine in their original flavours.

While we weren't surprised that the seafood here is spectacular, we were unexpectedly impressed with the dim sum too, impeccably executed by Unique Seafood's confidently skilled kitchen team. Unique Seafood PJ23 is a pork-free, lard-free restaurant, so it welcomes all Malaysians to relish its repertoire of dim sum, from chicken siew mai to chicken siew pau, shrimp-stuffed chee cheong fun to loh mai gai, beautifully crisp yam puffs to crunchy-creamy durian puffs for dessert.
