Meet this new collaboration between the founders of Changkat Bukit Bintang's Magnificent Fish & Chips Bar & Bangsar's Southern Rock Seafood wholesalers - a restaurant located beside the latter's retail store. It's a sparklingly inviting space, with a warm crew & seductive menu - on some afternoons, you might bump into Magnificent's gregarious chef-owner Paul James & find him offering to make you a whopping bowl of steaming-hot mussels while Cyndi Lauper sings on the speakers.
It's all seafood, all the way - no chicken, no beef; SRS focuses on its forte & surfaces with a solid selection that ranges from seafood 'popcorn' (RM20), beautifully textured fish balls made of salmon, snapper & cod, served with Marie Rose sauce ...
... to silky-savoury gin-ocean trout with soft poached egg & seaweed focaccia (RM28), pickled herring with Dijon & dill (RM30), Scottish cullen skink smoked haddock soup (RM28) & English dover sole with black truffle potatoes (RM98).
Remember those mussels we mentioned? Right here, soaked in slightly spicy laksa broth (RM48). Other offerings include pan-fried plaice with butter sauce (RM28), baked sea bass with gnocchi (RM48) & grilled barramundi with game chips (RM55).
Southern Rock Seafood also operates the Shucked oyster bars, so it's no surprise to find one here, with a repertoire that spans Ireland, Scotland, England, France & the Netherlands, starting from RM26 for a trio.
No lack of liquor (finally, on the Kemuja strip!). Italian Minini Pinot Grigio clocks in at RM120 a bottle; Prosecco is RM125.
