Remember PH Pastryhouse? It opened in November 2011 & acquired a respectable following but had to close when its Imbi venue was torn down to make way for the MRT.
It's nice that the cafe owners have chosen to forge forward, opening afresh at a calm, spacious location amid Sungai Besi's Lakefield commercial blocks.
PH Pastryhouse has revamped its menu in line with its new premises; the offerings feel more ambitious & taste well-executed. Can't fault this hearty, fishy-fruity salad of smoked salmon, mango, pomelo & blackcurrant dressing (RM13.90+).
Tapas are also available now, including wine-braised beef ribs with honey barbecue sauce (RM15.90+), lamb meatballs, fish cakes & fried brie.
Mains comprise the likes of this juicy 180-gram chunk of Canadian cod (RM48.90+), crusted with almonds & served with clams & tomato confit.
Beef Wellington (RM42.90+), 200 grams of mouthwatering meatiness, finished with finesse.
Apple strudels might not rank among our favorite things, but PH Pastryhouse serves quite impressive-looking ones, overstuffed with slices of doctor-repelling fruitiness. The signature strudels are also offered in blueberry & other variants.
Macarons (RM3.90+) here are well worthwhile; try the toffee & coffee flavors, crisp & creamy.
Wine is sold, but only by the bottle (about RM100 each).
