One of Malacca's best-known brands springs a sweet surprise: Nadeje, whose mille crepes have become near-legendary since 2006, finally branched out this week into the Klang Valley, opening in Petaling Jaya's Three Two Square.
There's no need now to make that two-hour drive to my southern hometown's Mahkota Parade: The complete spectrum of Nadeje's treats can be purchased in PJ, exactly what this cake shop's three outlets in Malacca/Melaka offer.
Customers can choose a slice of, say, tiramisu mille crepe, let it sit for several minutes & have their patience rewarded with pleasure-rich layers of butter-soft creaminess; immaculate in terms of texture, subtle & not too sugary, taste-wise.
There's a flavor for everyone, from praline mille crepes constructed with hazelnut paste & crushed caramelized hazelnuts ...
... to this liquor-laced one, studded with raisins preserved in rum for a week. Most cost RM9.
Caffeine lovers might appreciate this slice's aroma of roasted Italian coffee ...
... while fromage fans may admire this sweet-salty cross between cheesecake & mille crepe.
Nadeje's most decadent temptation: Double Chocolate, with dark choc cream & choc chips.
Back to basics: The original that started it all for Nadeje, with sumptuously smooth house-made custard cream & Tahitian vanilla bean mix. Thoughtful touch: Ice packs keep the crepes cool for takeaway orders.
A visit here should include Nadeje's Nama Donuts, launched last year. Thin sponge cake thickly topped with creme caramel in flavors like Gula Melaka & Green Tea.
Nadeje operates 11am-10pm in a secluded corner of Three Two Square. But there's little doubt that Nadeje's legion of fans will flood this cafe soon.
