Cloaked in canopies of Japanese-style indigo shibori tie-dyed hues, Komorebi is Klang’s beautiful new coffee bar and hair salon.

Beneath flowing fabrics that flutter from the ceiling, friendly barista-hairstylist Sean crafts lattes and hand-pours with a rotation of beans by local roasters.

Check out the custom-illustrated monochrome canvas that represents komorebi, the play of sunlight filtering through tree leaves. Wabi-sabi wonder in a space where charm and character, calm and caffeine coalesce.

Now launching in Petaling Jaya, The Gathering Beast brings together talented chefs who infuse modern flair mainly into familiar Malaysian Chinese fare.

Their soulful skills shine in comforting bovine creations like the Three Kingdom Beef (an offal lover's mix of tripe and tendon with celeriac and cashews in balsamic vinegar) and Beef Tongue Steak (slow-cooked at 75 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, glazed with Huangjiu rice wine, garnished with pickled nangka and sengkuang).

Fermented Pork Balls with creamy century egg sauce prove terrifically textured and tasty, crafted with a confident sense of home-cooked nostalgia, while Golden Crispy Fried Kuey Teow is immersed in rich, steamy broth built with the stock of three kinds of fish, complete with crab meat and sliced snapper.

Monét Atelier has softly surfaced in Imbi, expanding the Monét family of cafes’ footprint in the city.

True to its atelier aspirations, design and details set the stage here: Mosaic tiles, terracotta tones and latticework beckon patrons into a two-level gallery-style sanctuary of pillowy boucle chairs, mushroom-stool pouffes and trunk tables. Quirky murals etched on glass panels lend charming, childlike whimsy.

Arkib-roasted Ethiopian Korate Poppaji makes for smooth stone-fruit sipping, while Bryson Tiller and SZA shuffle on the speakers, cementing Monét Atelier’s soulful urban rhythm.
