Hani Eatery, Bangsar

Early birds can flock for a taste of Hani at Bangsar’s latest hidden cafe, which rises and shines this week with a menu that infuses Japanese inspirations and ingredients into playful, pretty pleasures.

Hani Eatery opens bright and sharp at 8am - exactly enough time for a light breakfast before the laptop beckons.

Hani is a graceful space, blessed with beautiful corners, with wide windows that let the sunshine in to warm the first floor of this Lucky Garden shop-lot.

For now, hot dishes of don and udon are only served starting 10am, but desserts and drinks help make the morning better.

Green tea is a primary colour throughout, particularly the cakes, all baked in-house, from the Yuri Matcha Roll Cake with Jasmine Cream (RM15) to the Yuri Matcha Tiramisu with Berries (RM16) to the Mokuren Genmaicha Short Cake with Seasonal Fruits (RM15).

There’s a tempting twist to every type of treat here - check out the Carrot Cream Cheese Madeleine (RM7), Scone Tart with Strawberry Jam (RM7), Lotus Biscoff Cookie (RM11) and Chocolate Cookie with Matcha Ganache (RM11).

Refreshments span original coolers like the Momo-Ira (RM16; green tea, grapefruit, white peach, calamansi) and the Kuro no Kohi (RM16; espresso, Earl Grey, grapefruit, white peach, lemon). Alternatively, warm up with oat-milked single-origin hot chocolate.

Hani Eatery

Caurys: Healthy, convenient riced broccoli & cauliflower for home cooking

If you're trying to embrace a healthier diet by curbing your consumption of white rice, pasta and carb-heavy staples, you might sometimes find healthier alternatives too expensive or inconvenient.

Caurys is the online plant-based rice grocer with the solution, offering two low-carb rice replacements - Organic Riced Broccoli and Organic Riced Cauliflower, made with 100% raw broccoli and cauliflower, freshly snap-frozen to preserve their nutrients, taste and texture, free of preservatives, additives, artificial colouring and flavouring.

Caurys' USDA Organic, halal-certified riced broccoli and cauliflower are ideal for a variety of diets, from keto to Atkins to Paleo. They're diabetic-friendly - loaded with fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants but low-glycemic; any sugar present is produced by the plants naturally.

Purchase at caurysfood.com

Caurys hits all the marks for cost and convenience, especially since broccoli rice is relatively rare in Malaysia compared to cauliflower rice.

The Organic Riced Broccoli and Organic Riced Cauliflower are available in sets of two packs for RM36. Every 500-gram pack contains five servings; customers can choose both packs to be broccoli, cauliflower or one each.

It's ready to cook, so you can prepare it within minutes, straight out of the freezer, completely hassle-free. It's also easy to store for future use, so you can always have a stash at hand.

Heat it on a pan or pop in the microwave for five minutes; bake it, mash it, roast or stir-fry - do pretty much whatever you want. You can simmer it in water like real rice, or sauté quickly with a bit of butter or olive oil on medium heat to enhance its flavour.

Caurys has helpful suggestions for recipes on its website, like Cauliflower Egg Fried Rice.

We partnered our Riced Broccoli in a balanced meal with grilled chicken, while our Riced Cauliflower became the foundation for a salad of sorts, with edamame, carrots, beetroot and apples, rounded out with grilled lamb for protein.

Both the Riced Broccoli and Riced Cauliflower channel their pure, original flavours.

The broccoli tastes greener and sweeter; the cauliflower is more neutral but not bland at all, a versatile base for lunch or dinner, nicely absorbing the taste of its seasonings (we're hankering for some cauliflower rice biryani!).

Both have a pleasant texture that evokes a nourishing, grain-eating experience, not too soft or mushy.

Half a cup of riced broccoli contains only 7 grams of carbohydrates, less than one-third of white rice’s 22 grams in an equivalent serving. Nutrition-wise, it's as great as freshly grated broccoli.

If you're hoping to make your diet richer in healthful vegetables, or if your resolution is to lose a little more weight before 2021 ends, Caurys can help. Find out more at caurysfood.com
