Big Tree Bakery, Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Nuts about Nutella? Try Big Tree Bakery's big three: The Nutella Brownie Pie, layered with Nutella mousse and Belgian dark chocolate ganache on a fudgy brownie base (RM13) and Nutella Red Velvet, topped with lashings of Nutella (RM13), rounded out with the Nutella equivalent of hot chocolate (RM12). Plenty of other sweet indulgences are available at this friendly cakes-and-cookies parlour, from Ferrero Rocher cakes to Burnt Cheesecakes.

Fun fact: The venue's name is a nod to the renowned rain tree at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, of which bakery co-founder Lutfi Shariff is an alumnus.

Little Wonders, Subang Jaya

Small wonders and their parents should feel especially at home in this family-friendly cafe, with its cheerful children's play corner and showcase of inspirational quotes - on some weekends, Little Wonders might even organise activities that guide kids on cooking with natural ingredients instead of processed fare, true to the cafe's tagline of 'Food, Family, Fitness.'

But the rest of us have big reasons to visit Little Wonders too, since the food is well-priced, well-portioned and well-prepared (the kitchen is run by the warm and welcoming folks behind That Latte Place).

There's no chicken or egg dilemma - order both: tender chicken leg marinated in a blend of herbs, slow-cooked in onion garlic broth, completed with sweet potato mash for a massively satisfying lunch (RM18), and poached omega-3 eggs, boosted by creamy-garlicky whipped Greek yogurt and herb rice bran chilli oil for hugely delicious dynamics (RM12).

Bar 2520, Nepal

Billed as the highest bar around Kathmandu, Bar 2520 soars - as its name implies - more than 2,500 metres above sea level, with a view that more than merits the cable car ride up to Chandragiri Hill. Snack here on Nepalese tidbits and sip on the local cocktail, the Hot Rum Punch, blended with house-made spicy dark rum, honey and hot water.

Kooky Cream, The Hub SS2

Most dessert parlours refresh you with their sweet indulgences; this one revives your spirit from the second you step inside.

Kooky Cream's specialities include an intriguing range of 'Ice Ice Baby' bowls - shaved ice topped with wobbly panna cotta in various flavours; Let's Cha Cha, for example, is for Japanese tea devotees, showcasing hojicha ice with matcha panna cotta (RM19; sufficient for two to share). Cakes and beverages are also reasonably well-executed; wash down a French vanilla mille crepe with cold-brewed tea laced with lavender and osmanthus.

This new whisky bar offers a solid selection of snacks - try the butterscotch sliders with bacon (RM28.80), or other meaty temptations like sticky rice with pork rendang, spiced chicken gizzard and smoked duck bruschetta - to pair with its spirits. No gripes about the Famous Grouse or the Naked Grouse (RM18.80 per glass) if you're bar-hopping in the neighbourhood.
