Balinese-inspired babi guling in KL’s historical heart: Bringing a bit of Ubud to our city, this new shop of Southeast Asian specialities is nestled between Chinatown’s chicken rice and claypot noodle stalwarts - look for the sign on Sultan Road that says Crispy Pork Noodles Soup.
The star of the Balinese-style rice platter is fleshy marinated pork with crisp shards of skin (RM19.80). The cook is a friendly Filipino, the meat is pork belly instead of suckling pig, oven-roasted instead of spit-roasted. But the kitchen makes a sincere effort, passing muster for KL, not Kuta.
You’ll find other regional street-food pork favourites like Thai crispy pork suhun soup, Teochew kueh chap, and Filipino lechon kawali, chicharon and sisig - plenty to pig out on.
