With more than 30 pizza flavours, available starting from six-inch personal portions that cost between RM7.90 to RM17.90, Pizza Roma makes it easy to throw a pizza party with plenty of varieties. The restaurant is located in Ampang but accepts delivery orders on its website, so we decided to summon five pies to sample at home.
Our favourite is the classic Margherita, made a bit fancier with softly elastic buffalo mozzarella (RM17.90), though the modern Vegan comes very close, well-blanketed with broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, red onions, artichokes and zucchini over pumpkin sauce that tastes naturally sweet, a milder substitute for tomato sauce (RM12.90).
We have mixed feelings about three other pizzas: The Zucchini Flower would fare best without pungent anchovies (RM12.90); the Five-Cheese is one-dimensionally savoury, not quite conveying the complexities of Parmesan with mozzarella, taleggio, gorgonzola and smoked scamorza (RM15.90); and the Prawn with Salted Egg offers the pleasant surprise of real morsels of yolk instead of a conventional salted egg sauce, but it still feels like a work in progress, not a fully-formed pizza (RM15.90).
Pizza Roma is available for dine-in at 363-1A, Jalan Ampang, and takes delivery orders at pizzaroma.my
