From Bandar Botanic to Bukit Bintang: Samy & Min represents the legacy of Klang-based patriarch Samy, who's been cooking up bak kut teh in the constituency of Pandamaran for the past 25 years. In 2014, his daughter Min expanded the business, setting up the first outpost of Samy & Min nearby in Bandar Botanic. The family has now extended its turf to KL, launching a sleek, comfortably contemporary space in Bukit Bintang's Pavilion shopping mall.
The traditional touchstones of bak kut teh are all accounted for here - choose from pork parts that range from trotter meat to 'fat bone,' three-layer meat to ribs, each served steaming-hot (RM21.20 per portion).
The pork is triumphantly tender, with a full-bodied fleshiness - a testament to being freshly cooked everyday (no overnight leftovers here). The well-portioned broth is concentrated and meaty-tasting, though it might not convey the herbal complexities that some customers might hope for. Still, this should hit the spot if you're a fan of bak kut teh in all its variations.
Side dishes like shrimp omelette (RM26.50) and the essential yao mak (RM19.10) are available to complete the meal.
Many thanks to Samy & Min Bak Kut Teh for having us.
