Bidding farewell to four cafes that have ceased operations in crowded Kota Damansara before we managed to write about them: First up, Flaming Melt was an American diner-style joint that specialised in distinctive grilled cheese sandwiches, both savoury & sweet. We munched on fun combos like BBQ pulled chicken with mac-&-cheese, apple with anchovies & sriracha sauce (!), veggies with house-made pesto sauce, arugula & mozzarella cheese, & s'mores-inspired marshmallows with Nutella & strawberry compote, each capably executed, with solid flavours & satisfactory textures. Flaming Melt was gone too soon, but thankfully, its inventive founders have remained in F&B, resiliently launching the KotakLunch meals delivery service.
Time has also run out for Coffee O'Clock, whose customers nibbled on the signature Mouse Trap (an NZ-inspired open sandwich loaded with melted cheese) & sipped coffee in a setting where nearly everything on the wall seemed to be ticking.
Courtyard Cafe was a casual, fuss-free spot for inexpensive brunches of eggs with sourdough bread (RM5.90), linguine with grilled chicken & kitchen-made pesto sauce (RM13.90) & Nestum-cloaked crunchy French toast with maple syrup (RM5.90).
Houze Coffee welcomed visitors with the likes of Eggs Atlantic & chai lattes - its fans can take heart though, since the cafe's founders recently opened another cafe called The Shotlist in Sri Petaling, which is fast becoming another hub for coffee bars.
Still, it's not all doom in Kota Damansara & its surrounding neighbourhoods; our visit here was way back in its early weeks, but EspressoLab's "No. 11" factory-lot address in Sunway Damansara should still be a place for pasta & pool, coffee & craft beer.
