Desa Sri Hartamas might seem to have everything, from Japanese sushi bars & Korean barbecue joints to Italian pizza parlours & German beer gardens, burgers & pork ribs to cakes & cocktails, but it's never had a real surf-&-turf specialist before this week. With a no-nonsense name like Steaks & Lobsters, customers know exactly what the protein-powered game is here.
A peek into the restaurant's carnivore-bait chiller will banish any doubt that Steaks & Lobsters is serious about its fare: You'll find coveted cuts of meticulously selected beef, from Aussie grass-fed to Angus grain-fed to Wagyu. Prices range from RM48 for 300 grammes of grass-fed sirloin (RM62 for grain-fed) to RM189 for Wagyu rib-eye MB7. All the steaks come with refillable sides of potato salad, fries, veggies, coleslaw & various sauces, so customers are guaranteed to go home feeling jolly full.
Wet-aged steaks, prepared precisely to your preference. Steaks & Lobsters also dabbles in other beefed-up dishes such as a 12-inch Spicy BBQ Dinosaur Bone (RM85) - carved out for caveman appetites - showcasing a beef short rib that's been braised for eight hours & basted with spicy BBQ sauce & olive oil over a charcoal fire, served with refillable sides as well.
Boston lobsters form the menu's second main component - the restaurant's pride is the succulent signature char-broiled lobster flamed with house-made aioli (RM75 for half, RM140 for whole), but patrons can also opt for steamed or grilled, served with spiced butter sauce or lemon bearnaise sauce respectively (RM68 for half, RM128 for full). Lobster is also the centrepiece of a Boston Roll (RM80, with fresh lobster salad stuffed into a toasted charcoal bun) as well as Lobster Pesto Pasta (RM68).
While waiting for the main event, the restaurant offers appetisers galore - familiar favourites, with a few twists here & there. Crowd favourites include spicy chicken wings (RM25 for four crispy drumettes & four flappers with honey mustard, carrots & celery), portobello fries with smoky sriracha aioli (RM19) & battered lobster-crab cakes with marinara sauce (RM28).
There's plenty to sample beyond steaks & lobsters, from budget-conscious starters like garlic escargots (RM18 for a half-dozen), nachos with four dipping sauces (RM19), herbed mozzarella cheese sticks (RM19) & a bucket of onion rings (RM18) to mid-range staples of cold-smoked, slow-roasted chicken (RM27), cod & chips (RM32, with 250 grammes of fish) & peri-peri char-broiled chicken leg (RM29) to a big-ticket, high-rolling '24-Carat Gold Burger' (RM168), endowed with a special-occasion 200-gramme patty constructed with Wagyu beef, lobster, crab & foie gras, crowned with gold leaves & Monterey Jack cheese.
A respectable range of vino can be guzzled; glasses start at RM19.90 (bottles top out at RM149.90). But the attention-seizing beverage is the duck bacon vanilla milkshake (RM17.90), laced with chewy bits of house-cured bacon - a testament to Steaks & Lobsters' potential to become a very special spot in Hartamas. Many thanks to the team here for the hospitality this evening.
