As we learned from "An Affair To Remember," winter must be cold for those with no warm memories. Mercifully, sweet remembrances can be made at Kota Damansara's Winter Lover, which specializes in fascinatingly flavored mille crepes and macarons.
For a treat that tastes like Neapolitan ice cream, these layers of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry illustrate that three flavors might be better than only one.
Winter Lover also offers mille crepes tinged with either Bailey's or rum. The taste of the liquor is obvious though not as powerful as we might prefer. Still, there's no complaining, since each slice costs barely RM10.
Other varieties include French chestnut, Musang durian and Hokkaido milk. Soft and smooth, these are terrific in texture but perhaps slightly too subtle in taste.
Also an attraction here: funky macarons, including cempedak, jaffa, oreo, bandung, corn, yam, banana, salted caramel and cheesy chocolate.
Kids will likely love these, though we'd like 'em better a little less biscuit-like.
Winter Lover also offers numerous types of flower tea and other relatively healthy beverages.
Another mille crepe specialist, Humble Beginnings, recently opened its own cafe in Bangsar after some time supplying cakes to stores and for deliveries.
Fresh is best: four or five varieties might be found at Humble Beginnings, but request the ones that have spent the least time in the chiller, since they'll provide the most luxurious creaminess.
Everyone might have their favorite flavor: Peanut butter with blueberry? Cheese with mango? French vanilla? All worthy of consideration.
Hot latte and iced doppio. Decent, but the mille crepes are the real reason to head here.
Raspberry tea laced with French vanilla. A bit of an acquired taste.
Humble Beginnings sits in a humble half-outlet beside Telawi's Subway. Tricky to spot.
