TTDI's first dedicated sandwich bar is set to open in style this week, promising a free sandwich for everyone who visits on Wednesday, 2 May 2018!
The Sandwich Hub is a fuss-free, grab-and-go destination that serves 12 types of tasty sandwiches every weekday, 10am-3pm - it even offers curbside delivery if you're just driving by or have difficulty finding a decent parking spot.
Ahead of The Sandwich Hub's launch, we had a preview of its signature selection, which covers a wide range of flavours and inspirations. The sandwiches were conceived by the Hub's founder and restaurateur Shankar Santhiram, who also owns the neighbourhood's beloved D'Legends Bar while leading his own management consulting and leadership coaching firm, EQTD Consulting.
Shankar came up with the idea of The Sandwich Hub to create affordable meals - with each sandwich costing below RM10 - that anyone can enjoy for lunch, no matter how busy their schedules, without enduring a food coma afterwards.
Each sandwich is nonetheless satisfyingly hearty, with plenty of substance in between the thick, freshly crisp ciabatta bread, layered with house-made sauces. For sandwich devotees, this is the place to bookmark, even after this Wednesday's free-sandwich fiesta.
Start with the Asian-influenced sandwiches, most notably The Kopitiam, which brings together meaty chunks of chicken char siew with the crunch of spring onions for a can't-fail sweet-savoury combination that evokes classic Malaysian coffee-shop comforts (RM 8.90).
The Kampungku should also be a crowd-rouser, smashing sambal ikan bilis with melted mozzarella cheese for a spicy-creamy fusion mix that still succeeds in reminding us of traditional hometown flavours (courtesy of the sambal), true to the sandwich's name (RM 8.90).
To complete this triumvirate of triumphs, take a deep dive into the crustacean-filled Indian Ocean, which surfaces with poached sea prawns and a curried cocktail sauce that tingles the taste buds in the unmistakable manner of cherished Indian curries (RM 9.90).
Meat maniacs can sink their teeth into The Sirloin, which showcases a hefty, caveman-worthy portion of roasted sirloin steak slices, balanced with lettuce and ranch dressing - for RM 9.90, it's a bargain for beef-eaters.
The Shepherd is one of our favourites, featuring reasonably tender roasted lamb shoulder slices, well-partnered with caramelised onions and mint mayonnaise for buoyant uplift - a testament to The Sandwich Hub's finely judged sense of execution to elevate each sandwich (RM 9.90).
Vegetarians, fear not: Meat-free possibilities won't be found lacking - The Cheesy Cheese is a dairy delight that's generously layered with chubby slabs of aged cheddar, pickles, tomatoes and onions for robust, punchy dynamics (RM 7.90), while The Gardener proves to be a bountiful harvest of grilled eggplant, zucchini and chive mayonnaise that brings potent flavour to fibre (RM 7.90).
So far, we've sampled seven sandwiches, and there are still five more to go (we'll try The Cheeseburger and The Maharaja sandwiches next!) - it's easy to imagine popping by The Sandwich Hub on a regular basis, since the variety is diverse enough to ensure that practically every preference is catered for. Many thanks to The Sandwich Hub for this sneak peek.
