Petite Millie & Artisan Roast

Returning to Petite Millie @ 1 Utama & Artisan Roast @ TTDI. Not sure why we keep pairing these two places together, but it feels like a harmonious coupling.
Earlier entry on both outlets: February 6, 2012.

Tired of thin, weak-tasting soups? Petite Millie understands your frustration. Try this root veggie & borlotti bean broth, accompanied by crusty bread topped with olive tapenade. Creamy & surprisingly robust for meatless fare; if you love Italian minestrone, you'll likely enjoy this Provence-inspired French version. Carrots rule!

Petite Millie's specialties include freshly prepared open sandwiches called "tartine." Here's a hearty one, featuring plenty of beef (warm & tender), crumb-fried egg, horseradish & fennel piled up on buttered bread. Hands up though, everybody who'd prefer a runnier yolk!

What's the healthiest thing you've eaten so far this year? Here's ours: spinach leaves & orange segments, finished with sumac-dusted chevre cheese & balsamic vinegar. Who says malls only offer junk food?

It's got your good libations, it's such a sweet sensation...

Moving on for a nightcap; at 11pm on a Saturday, Artisan Roast remains unexpectedly crowded for a coffee-specialist cafe. While some folks avoid caffeine when the sun sets, others happily order a midnight caffe mocha.

It's the sugar here that keeps us buzzing. Homemade sweets rarely get richer than Artisan Roast's milky-moist, pitch-black chocolate cupcake, alongside a rather unorthodox pumpkin one, laced with chocolate chips.

Sicilian apple cake, jam-packed with crunchy walnuts & juicy raisins.

Small in stature, fabulous in flavor: bite-sized salted caramel & zesty lemon cakes. Ideal for weight-watchers who want to indulge just a little, not a lot.

Artisan Roast @ TTDI. A comprehensive chart on the wall shows customers what choices might suit them best. For example: Want coffee with milk, but no syrup, ice or chocolate? Then a piccolo or flat white should be your safest bet.

Petite Millie @ 1 Utama. We've stepped into this outlet twice now, but we haven't spotted its founder, Millesime's Max Chin, here yet. He's rumored to be sometimes milling around somewhere in the mall, but 1 Utama is too huge to hunt for him.
