Wichday @ Taman Connaught, Cheras

Fans of fun fare might want to pony up for a meal at Wichday, where the menu is a carousel of cool creativity, masterminded by two horse-loving sisters who've created a charming cafe that seems perfect for a six-year-old's birthday party.

Wichday is all about carbs, with a dizzying diversity of pastas, pancakes & toasts. Our best bet is the house spaghetti, mixed with a spicy sauce, peanuts, seaweed, carrots, cucumber & a boiled egg, supplying a surprising spectrum of pan-Asian flavours for a very fair RM12.90. For folks who prefer sharing platters, there's a rolled sandwich stuffed with crab sticks, ebiko & cheese, served with tortilla chips & slaw (RM14.90), but the balance of flavours & textures for this may not be a total triumph.

Wichday's founders have worked hard to come up with imaginative recipes, constructed with kitchen-made ingredients. Portions prove princely - two customers can comfortably split the starchy slab of salted egg butter toast (RM13.90) with scarce stomach space left for the Green Lava thick kaya toast (RM12.90), oozing over with Wichday's own-produced coconut jam.

Wichday also makes its own ice cream to crown concoctions like 'Miss Pinky,' a floral-fruity beauty of fresh mini-pancakes, lusciously rose-scented & soaked in maple syrup, served with lychee, strawberries & raspberry ice cream (RM11.90). We also enjoyed the dense, flavourful Nutella ice cream that's usually paired with a Nutella toast. For beverages, highlights include the ice-blended aromatic durian coffee with ice cream (RM5.90) & honey milk with ice (RM7.90); thanks to Wichday for hosting us.
