Kitchen Creatures @ Centrepoint, Bandar Utama

Enduring more than five years now in Bandar Utama, Kitchen Creatures has proven to be one of Centrepoint's most dependable destinations for a satisfactory meal at prices that encouragingly still seem more hitched to 2010 than 2015.

Kitchen Creatures' menu is impressive in scope, with several interesting temptations in each section; for salads, the highlight may be this perky mix of crisp spinach leaves, cilantro, watercress, orange segments, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes & cucumber, tossed with pistachios & a light ginger honey dressing. RM10.90; this hearty serving works for a wholesome lunch.

Meat matters: Beef is a cornerstone of the kitchen, with everything from this Cowboy Steak with a 200-gram, flame-grilled Australian rib-eye with grilled beef bacon, house-made mashed potatoes, sauteed onions & fried egg (RM31.80 for a princely portion of protein) to beef burgers, beef wraps, beef rendang penne & beef pepperoni pizzas.

Kitchen Creatures' menu has evolved over time - one of its newer temptations is this tender Aussie lamb shank in a reinterpreted Rogan Josh recipe, slow-braised in yoghurt tomato masala, rich but not too fiery, served with steamed carrot butter rice & onion mint raisin raita. RM32.90.

Plenty of pasta; our pick's this one with scallops on the half shell, blue mussels, calamari & prawns sauteed in almond pesto sauce. The pasta could be a bit firmer, but this is still fair value for RM24.80, surprisingly substantial enough for a filling dinner.

For some KC loyalists, their favourites comprise the pizzas, which include more than a few vegetarian options. Try the feta cheese & spinach option, full of flavour with carbonara sauce on a relatively thick but nonetheless crunchy base. RM17.80.

Kitchen Creatures is also known for signature beverages with a twist, like its blend of A&W Root Beer with fine-cut ginger & ginger ale (RM5.80), a Limey George with Sprite, lemon & blackcurrant syrup (RM7.80) & Ginger Jinjer featuring lemongrass-infused rose syrup, soda & chopped ginger flower (RM7.80).

Thanks to the Kitchen Creatures, including manager Reynold, for hosting this meal. We're pleased to have Kitchen Creatures as a featured outlet on the Eat Drink KL mobile app. Customers can use the app to enjoy a 6 percent discount off their receipt at Kitchen Creatures, everyday, all day long. P.S. Note that Kitchen Creatures no longer serves any form of alcohol, including beer. But no worries, there are lots of other watering holes in Centrepoint to head to after dinner - we like Bosko, which serves wine at reasonable rates (RM18 per house-pouring glass). Main entry on Bosko: January 2015.
