My Charcoal & Edesia 21 @ Damansara Heights

Checking out a couple of neighbourhood newbies in Bukit Damansara, starting with My Charcoal Bar, a barbecue joint that replaces Ka Soh Seafood Restaurant on the Kasah F&B strip.

My Charcoal boasts a reasonably interesting repertoire that spans both sea & land - the former is represented by a BBQ fish cutlet surprisingly surrounded by sliced fish roe (RM30 before taxes) & BBQ prawns with lemongrass & ginger sauce (RM55) ...

... while the latter includes 'Devilled Peppers,' comprising capsicum packed with minced pork, fiery chillies, mustard & onions (RM30), plus baby back pork ribs with piri-piri & apple sauce (RM76), boneless whole roasted chicken stuffed with sage & onions (RM56), grilled beef strips with chimichurri & pumpkin puree (RM45), & barbecued lamb ribs with rosemary vinegar sauce (RM76). The two dishes we tried were capably prepared, so we might splurge on the higher-priced recipes next time.

Wine is available, but only by the bottle when we visited recently. Service is efficient & enthusiastic.

Next up, a three-minute drive away: Edesia 21, nestled in a more peaceful part of Bukit Damansara, where parking's breezier.

It's a calm, crowd-free & fuss-free hideout, with a pleasantly leafy view of the suburban homes beyond its windows.

The menu's mainly honest, homely fare, from fried rice with egg & mutton (RM14.90) to pasta in a meaty curry sauce (RM19.90), all of which can be washed down with a bottle of wine if you feel like lingering.
