Go Thai @ SS2 PJ Petaling Jaya

This Malaysian-owned outlet with an all-Thai, all-smiles kitchen team opened recently at SS2, specialising in Thai street fare.

Go Thai still had no signboard up when we visited them last month, but look out for them near the police station, close to the Rabbit Tyre auto shop. It's a simple, spacious set-up, flaunting a few colourful flourishes but maintaining the focus on the food.

When the going gets tough, the tough go for tender 'khao kha moo' (RM9), stewed pork trotters with rice & duck egg, a combo that's reasonably prepared & potentially satisfactory for a soul-food lunch. For one-plate meals, there's also stir-fried minced pork with holy basil & rice or pork with Thai kuey teow in soup.

BBQ skewers are a highlight, showcasing a strong inspiration from the northeastern Isan region. Our favourite's the 'moo ping' pork fillet, juicy & powerfully sweet-savoury (RM10 for three sticks). Customers with a tolerance for offal can try the 'tub yang,' chicken liver that's extremely flavourful (RM5 for two sticks). Have them with sticky rice (RM2).

There's enough here for a filling meal, from a decent 'som tum' papaya salad (RM8) to 'phad mae korat' fried noodles (RM9), washed down with Thai longan beverages or tea. All in all, we think Go Thai has a bright future - expect to hear more about it in the months ahead.
