Charlie Chaplin Cafe & Evelyn's Chocolate House @ One City USJ Subang

Chilling out with Charlie & Evelyn, two of the more familiar F&B names at Subang Jaya's Skypark One City shopping mall.

We have mixed feelings about Charlie Chaplin Cafe - 'City Lights' is one of our favourite movies, & we're not sure this restaurant captures the Tramp's warm, playful spirit; it's beautifully but too slickly outfitted, showcasing more sheen than soul.

Black-&-white bolognese pasta (RM26) on plates emblazoned with Chaplin's signature character's image & coffee profiled with bowler-hat-&-baggy-pants artwork make for distinctive designs; they look more memorable than they taste. Argentinian & Aussie wine is offered at RM12.50 a glass & RM59 a bottle - more affordable than expected, but not for the Tramp of course.

Also in this mall, Evelyn's Chocolate House, which specialises in choc desserts, boasts an old-school diner's rollicking vibe.

Evelyn puts chocolate to creative use; its offerings range from white chocolate swans on choux pastry boats (RM8.50) to soft crepes sliced into pasta strips, smothered with chocolate sauce & ice cream (RM23.90), washed down with all manner of chocolate-heavy beverages. Probably best enjoyed by children with parents who won't mind sending them on a sugar rush.

  1. Sean, you always find the most amazing places. I love these, and the chocolate looks decadent.

    1. Linda: glad you like the look of both these places ... and i'm a chocolate fan too, though not a major one :)

  2. Lovely looking plates of pasta. think of Charlie as fun, funny man. I think of his songs - I hope they play them there - Eternally, This is my song. He's got many very nice music scores for movies like Limelight (where Eternally comes from). Genius, that funny man!

    1. Suituapui: it's interesting that you mention Limelight ... that's my second favourite Chaplin movie, after City Lights ... i'm glad to hear you're a fan too! :D

  3. Charlie Chaplin ? We have one Marrilyn Monroe Cafe here too! :P

    1. Ken: oh no ... even in death, there is no peace for them!

  4. I don't think I'd like to eat a dessert disguised as pasta! :D Nice aerial shots of those Charlie Chaplin umbrellas!

    1. Contact.ewew: heh, yeah, it's a bit of a novelty, that pretend-pasta dessert, but i guess it tasted ok, like a crepe with chocolate ice cream :) thanks ... it was taken from the first floor of the two-level cafe :)
