Inaho Sushi @ One City USJ Skypark

For folks seeking a Japanese restaurant with a bird's-eye view, Inaho Sushi easily fits the bill, thanks to its leafy alfresco terrace overlooking a suburban landscape from the 10th-floor Skypark rooftop of Subang's popular One City mall complex.

This place could work for patrons who want to usher in Christmas or the New Year from an on-top-of-the-world perspective. Inaho's outdoor tables are limited, so advance reservations are essential, but the restaurant has a spacious air-conditioned interior as well to accommodate more customers. Visitors can also stroll around the rest of the rooftop & enjoy the ambiance.

A celebration calls for sashimi - Inaho serves a satisfying platter, brimming with luscious slices of fresh seafood (seven varieties for RM55). Devotees of salmon, tuna, scallops, shrimp, squid & octopus will have little trouble polishing this off.

Rolling with it, the unagi maki (creamy-tasty with the can't-fail combo of eel & avocado) clocks in at RM25, illustrating Inaho's strengths - everything we tried was well-prepared & seemed fairly priced.

For hearty appetites, the bara chirashi don proves a stomach-stuffer of a high order, loaded with dice-cut assorted seafood, tamago & more avocado, crowning a big bowl of sushi rice (RM33).

Our favourite: Hand rolls stuffed with thick slices of salmon sashimi & savoury salmon roe, for an explosion of vivid flavours & burst of pleasurable textures. We could happily eat these all evening.

Tai kama karaage - fried snapper fish cheek (RM15), served steaming-hot, its crisp exterior yielding to deliciously moist flesh.

Inaho's fun take on chawanmushi (RM12), topped with a layer of crab meat for a bit more bite.

Inaho's prawn dumplings work well enough too (RM12), seemingly bridging the gap between har gao & meat-filled gyoza.

Beef-eaters will find plenty to relish in this Japanese curry, thick with tender tendons & slurp-worthy with soba (RM20).

Thanks to the Inaho team for hosting this dinner; service at Inaho Subang sparkles with efficiency & friendliness.

Inaho also offers sake-based cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic mocktails made with the likes of green tea & berries.
