Top Catch Fisheries @ OUG

Seafood sails into the spotlight at Top Catch, anchored amid the packed-like-sardines markets of Overseas Union Garden, where two thirtysomething entrepreneurs captain a small shop that nets boatloads of fish-loving fans nearly every morning.

Sashimi is our focus here; thick slabs of Norwegian salmon line the counter, set to be sliced to order by co-owners Eddie & CC.

Customers can bring the sashimi home or eat it right outside, fresh & nicely chilled, at the kopitiam tables.

Delicate-tasting salmon sashimi is the main hook: this 260-gram serving, which two can happily share, costs RM20.80.

Smoked salmon is pricier but no less enjoyable, at RM37.10 for a luscious 260-gram portion.

Our order of Hokkaido scallops clocked in at RM30; the seafood here tastes satisfactory for freshness.

Limited quantities of seasonal sashimi-grade fish are sometimes also available as weekend specials, including kinmedai, ainame & isaki flown in from Tokyo's Tsukiji market.

Other frozen seafood - from grouper, mackerel & pomfret to mussels, lobster & snow crab legs - can be purchased for takeaway.

Top Catch's sustainable-seafood philosophies are made clear on the shop's walls. Note: Parking is tricky in this neighbourhood.
