It could use a little more natural light, but it's nice to see this Japanese eatery open at PJ's Section 17, with a comprehensive menu at suburb-friendly prices.
Yokotaya's sushi topped with salmon & onions (RM7.80+) is fun, with the fleshy freshness of the former mingling well with the crisp pungency of the latter.
Hiroshima oysters (RM25.80+), kaki-fry that can't be faulted, thanks to juicy mollusks that are heavy on flavor & crunchy bread crumbs light on grease.
Salmon belly kushiyaki (RM21.80+), a sacrament of succulence.
Healthiest hamburg steak ever (RM25.80+), served nabeyaki hotpot-style, in a richly savory broth with carrots, potatoes, mushrooms & egg yolk.
Pickled glass noodles with cucumber, simple but satisfying.
Natto lovers, rejoice: stinky-sticky soybeans come in abundance with soba here (RM23.80+).
Familiar name? Yokotaya's PJ outlet is a branch of an existing Kepong restaurant.
Yokotaya is on the same row as The Gastro Project & Little Heritage House.
Note: This outlet serves pork. The hamburg is a mix of beef & pork.

That hamburg steak looks very interesting! Although patty looks bit burnt? Hehe would like to try other fried food since its so well done :D
ReplyDeleteDrops of contentment: heheh, the patty was ok on the inside though, still moist and juicy. But ya, the food here is pretty satisfactory. Not the best Japanese in town, but definitely good enough for a rainy nite, heh =)
DeleteYa...would want to try the steak. It does look a bit burnt but my daughter would love that. Imagine me ordering char kwayteow and requesting for it to be a bit burnt as she likes it that way. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteSuituapui: true, a bit of charredness adds a little more taste and texture to the mix! :D
DeleteI want the hamburg steak. it looks perfect! with an egg as well...omg!
ReplyDeleteMissyblurkit: I forgot to mention, the hamburg steak is made of minced pork AND beef, so it's double the meaty delight! add the egg and it gets even better :D
DeleteI love Japanese food!
ReplyDeleteBut not the dish with natto, I know it is healthy, but...:P
CK: heheh, i also not really a lover of natto. and it's quite difficult to eat properly with chopsticks! :D
DeleteI also wan the hamburg steak and woe to whom who gets in my way!!! :P
ReplyDeleteThe salmon belly kushiyaki n pickled glass noodles are looks good too...hehe =)
Ulric: heheh, they also do a sizzling hamburg here, also with egg, of cos =) and ya, the salmon belly was a pleasant surprise, fat and juicy. the glass noodles turned out to be a complimentary serving with the sake (or something like that, it was difficult to communicate with our mandarin-speaking waiter) :D
DeleteSizzling hamburg with egg summore...I m in heaven lar...hehe =)
DeleteUlric: yeah, i wasn't sure whether to order the sizzling or the hotpot. chose the hotpot in the end cos that's a hamburg recipe i haven't seen around much :D
DeleteHaha...ya...something different for a change...hehe =)
DeleteUlric: yup, it's a hefty menu here, so it'll take at least five minutes to search the listing carefully for the interesting items =)
DeleteYeah, that hamburg steak floating in the hot pot sure is enticing!
ReplyDeleteBeef and pork! That makes it doubly so. Thanks for the tip, I'll go check it out for the steak. :D
Huai Bin: that hamburg stew's a great way to get a lot of nourishment in one bowl, i reckon. and yeah, with all the goodness of some reasonably lean-tasting pork and beef =)
DeleteLovely, a porky hamburg! Like finallyyyyy.... :)
ReplyDeleteRebecca: not too many pork-loving japanese restaurants around, so it's good to have this one open at section 17 =)
Deleteseksyen 17 has really mature in food department, kan?
ReplyDeleteKY: yeah, it's become quite an essential neighborhood to keep tabs on! :D
DeleteNice find! Love the decent prices and reasonable portions too. That hamburg steak in particular is getting me drooling!
ReplyDeleteIamthewitch: yeah, it's always good to have a decent japanese option that serves the full spectrum of sashimi to teppanyaki, but not at hotel prices! and i find it hard to resist a good hamburg! :D
DeleteSeems that Japanese is the new Italian in KL.
ReplyDeleteThe Yum List: i love both japanese and italian, so i definitely can't complain, heh! :D
DeleteDrooling at the hamburg steak! But no to natto. Lol
ReplyDeleteBangsar Babe: heh, i know at least one person who's an avid fan of natto, but that person's definitely in the minority! :D
DeleteYou quite like natto hor.... I sees natto...I run... :-p
ReplyDeleteHamburg steak in hot pot style....nice lar...
Melissa: heheh, i must try to have hamburg more often this year :D i think one of my friends enjoys natto more than me. but i can eat it, heh =)
DeleteOh yea, the hambagu is quite different but I'm intrigued to try it :)
ReplyDeleteBaby sumo: it does indicate that hamburg is more versatile than we might expect, heh :D
DeleteNatto beans and soba, here I come! Why do I always like the smelly stuff?!
ReplyDeleteYouHadYourLunch: that's a good thing, cos the smelly stuff is often healthy, it seems! :D
Deleteseems that there is lot of restaurant at section 17
ReplyDeletemust go and venture there..
Simple Person: ya, section 17 has some good restaurants and some bad restaurants, so hopefully you manage to check out the good ones :D
